ADI is a charter airline that will provide 10 flights weekly in an airplane carrying 50 passengers. The U.S. Department of Transportation approved the airline’s application last Thursday, January 28, stating:
“[ADI is] fit, willing and able to engage in interstate scheduled air transportation of persons, property and mail using small aircraft.”
Youngstown-Warren’s Director of Aviation, Dan Dickten, said he is “very happy” with the outcome, and that he expects flights to start in April. Although no fares have yet been established, he says prices will be comparable to those charged at other regional airports, including Pittsburgh and Canton. He also revealed that the airport last had daily service in 2003.
The Chicago service will be an asset to businesses in the area, according to Sarah Boyarko, who is the regional chamber’s senior vice president. In addition, having regularly scheduled service could be a selling point that would encourage new businesses to locate in the region. Boyarko noted the chamber has been working with the airport on this project since mid-2014, and the approval means a lot to businesses.
