The Eagles classic song “Hotel California” describes fun in the sun, which can seem like a cruel joke to people suffering through a bitter Ohio winter. However, the song also inspired Sebastian Rucci to create his own version of the hotel described in the song.
The Hotel California, located about nine miles from Youngstown, had a “soft” opening the weekend of April 18 and 19, with dancing, Zumba, dining, billiards, and outdoor activities on the agenda.
Rucci said his idea for the 102-room hotel, a multimillion dollar facility, began to coalesce several years ago when he purchased the former Economy Inn and Suites, located on Route 46. He wanted to create an oasis for guests, providing them a place where they could truly get away. Over a period of 18 months, he worked to make his dream a reality.
He transformed the building, lining it with palm trees inside and out. Interior walls are brightly painted, and outdoor lights wash the walls with colors that change every five minutes. Inside, Club Cali features a stage for local acts to perform, a television-surrounded dance floor, and a billiards area. Rucci says he is trying to give his guests exactly the California experience they hope to have.
Rucci could work with brochure printers to create an in-room booklet for guests, perhaps reprinting the song’s lyrics.
