Funds allocated to redevelop city parks

Youngstown's city council plans to allocate $855,685 from the American Rescue Plan funds to enhance two parks, while retracting a previously approved allocation of $300,000 that was to be used to redevelop Federal Street's eastern side.

The most substantial proposal from the American Rescue Plan funds that appeared on the council's to-do list is worth $430,685. The proposed allocation aims to enhance the recreational facilities and playgrounds at Lynn Park which is located in Ward 7 on Lynn Avenue. Such proposals can be presented on documents that feature official Letterheads.

Out of the proposed allocation of $430,685 for improvements at Lynn Park, $300,000 is part of the $10.5 million worth of ARP funding okayed by the council in July last year for projects related to parks and recreation. The leftover amount of $130,685 will be sourced from the $2m in ARP funding each councilmember received a year ago. The total ARP funding allotted to the wards is $14m.

The representative for Ward 7 on the council intends to initiate a thorough overhaul of Lynn Park. The proposed renovation would comprise various enhancements such as fixing the pavilion and restroom building, repaving the worn-out walking trails, installing a new fence, adding exercise stations, bringing in new playground equipment, and replacing the current tennis courts with either a basketball court or a pickleball court.
