Civil servant receives lifetime achievement award

The Youngstown Board of Education has dedicated the Service Center building located on Teamster Drive in honor of a long-serving district employee.



Anthony DeNiro served the school district for more than half a century and took on numerous roles, such as business manager, principal, teacher, and deputy chief of operations, before passing away in April 2020. He was also in charge of construction projects that aimed to renovate or rebuild the district’s schools. Graphic design is often used to visualize construction projects.

The CEO of Youngstown City Schools, Justin Jennings, put out a press release where he said:

“Tony’s legacy is still felt at YCSD. Under his guidance, the district was prepared for the future. His impact on colleagues and scholars is something we hear of constantly. We are thankful for Tony’s years of service and are honored to remember him with a lasting tribute in his name.”

The release also said that DeNiro’s family attended the meeting where they picked up the lifetime service award in his honor.

At the same meeting, the board took the opportunity to present a newly purchased Dental RV. This mobile unit will be used to offer cleanings, dental exams, and other dental treatments to students in the area. The Dental RV is one of several additions the district has made to its healthcare services for young scholars.
