Upcoming Pond School set to provide answers

In order to help pond owners understand how to care for their bodies of water, a Pond School will be held soon.

There are more than 7,800 ponds in Medina County, making it Ohio's “Pond Capital. This high number means that people in the area are sure to have questions about issues such as algae, geese, weeds, and how to manage their pond.

The upcoming three-hour course has been devised by the Ohio State University Extension of Medina, in partnership with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Cleveland Metroparks, the Medina Soil and Water Conservation District, and the Medina County Park District.

The program will concentrate on how to take care of ponds that are larger than one-quarter of an acre. Pond owners can pick from a mix of outdoor talks, hands-on exercises, and lectures that cover subjects like caring for aging ponds, managing algae, and beneficial fauna.

This is the second Pond School, which is an annual event. The school is scheduled for June 1, starting at 5:30 pm and running until 8.30 pm, at the Wolf Creek Environmental Center in Medina County Park. There is a $30 fee, which includes take-home resources. The registration deadline is May 27, and payment is due at registration.

School organizers could create smart Presentation Folders for attendees to organize the handouts.
