Medina school officials ask for input

David Knight, superintendent of the school district, has announced his plans to retire as of July 1.

The district has decided to hold public meetings to gather input from residents about what they want to see in their new superintendent.

At a February 1 work session, the school board decided to hire a professional company to conduct a search for the new superintendent. The organization chosen is the Educational Services Center of Medina County, which will not charge the school district for its services. The ESC was hired after the board interviewed four such firms.

Residents are encouraged to either fill out a form that was made available on line, or to attend one of the two remaining public meetings about the issue. The board hopes it will have a new superintendent in place by the end of May.

The first of the meetings is tomorrow, February 17, and is scheduled for the Claggett Middle School on Union Street from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm. This is followed by a Friday, February 19 meeting to be held in Community Room A of the recreation center on Weymouth Road, from 7:30 am to 9:00 am.

Since time is short, the school board might want to work with a postcard printing company on a mailer to remind residents of the meetings.
