The Christmas Cheer program, an effort of the Medina Salvation Army, got underway recently at the Army’s Liberty Street offices.
Christmas Cheer gives food and toys during the holidays to those in need. In the first five days of this year’s program, 85 families signed up to receive both food and toys, while an additional 28 families requested only food. The drive has been in place since 2001.
The program is open to families or parents from Spencer and Litchfield townships, Chippewa Lake, and Medina. In order to register, they need to call the Salvation Army for an appointment, and bring several types of documentation with them. These include a piece of photo ID, proof of address, documents proving they need government assistance, and proof of children. After they have signed up, parents are asked to fill in an “angel tag” that lists the top three gifts their children want.
The tags will be handed out to several businesses in Medina, and customers or employees can choose one and shop for the children on them. In addition, the Gazette newspaper will make its Not-Forgotten Box available. People can drop off unwrapped new toys at the paper between November 17 and December 12. The toys collected here will be given to the Salvation Army to give to children who may not have had their “angel tag” chosen.
Salvation Army officers could work with a poster printing company to create display Posters to put around town, promoting the drive.Get a Free Quote for Posters
