People in the area around South Prospect Street and West Washington Street in Medina have teamed up to create the Bankers Row Historic Neighborhood Association.
The new group is the fourth such association to form in the city’s inner-ring neighborhoods, joining the East Liberty Street, Water Tower District, and South Court Street Historic groups.
The first meeting of the new association was held at the Munson House, which is owned by Beth Biggins-Ramer and her husband, Charlie Ramer. A collection of 20 people attended to ask questions and discuss the history of their homes.
The Munson House and the Ramers are both relatively new to the area. The Munson House was originally located on Public Square, but was moved in 1985 to its current location on South Prospect Street. The Ramers did not move in until approximately two years ago. They and some of their neighbors had been thinking about starting an association, since many of the neighborhood’s homes date back to the earliest days of the city.
Biggins-Ramer noted that most of those who lived in the area bought historic homes in order to preserve them in their original condition, and keep them historically accurate. Nonetheless, residents also want to raise their families in the homes, and these two goals—family living and historic preservation—led to the decision to form a neighborhood association.
Organizations like this can benefit by working with flyer printing companies, which can create materials for neighborhood distribution.
