To deal with the frustration of computer problems in the home, Medina residents have a new option—go to the Medina Library for help from the ‘Computer Whisperer’.
Justin Schwin, who works for the Medina County District Library as an IT tech, is available to help computer users every other Saturday, free of charge. Three days next month have been set aside so that those being driven crazy by computers can have the benefit of Schwin’s expertise.
Schwin saw a need for someone to provide this type of service when he overheard a customer asking a clerk in an office supply store to run a diagnostic on his computer. The test would have cost $70, but Schwin identified himself as a technician and solved the problem by pressing one key, saving the customer time and money. Seeing this, Schwin decided computer support might be one of the services the library could offer.
Schwin notes that technicians aren’t magicians; they are just ordinary people who have learned the basics and can troubleshoot computers. He believes that once people know a few facts, they can take care of their own machines.
Schwin is in the Medina branch library from noon to 4 pm, and the next dates are May 3, 17, and 31. The library could work with brochure printers to create a mailer for residents, telling them about this service.
