Medina County to salvage Central Processing Facility

Abundant Services, Inc., has been hired by the Medina County Solid Waste District to salvage the former Central Processing Facility, a waste processing plant, and remove all equipment located there.

Beth Biggins-Ramer, speaking for the waste district, said the work should be finished by December 1, 2017, as clearing out the site is the beginning of the process of finding someone to run the plant.

The district had asked companies to submit requests for qualifications, and received six replies; however, only four submitted completed paperwork: Rumpke of Ohio, Inc.; Kimble, Co.; an Italian company known as Entsorga; and Envision Waste Services, LLC. Envision is the former operator of the facility, and had been in business there for nearly 20 years.

As per the agreement it has with the district, Abundant will remove and scrap the metal, including the heavy machinery, it finds at the facility, and keep the proceeds. Before Abundant began working, officials took out the electrical system and disconnected the sprinkler and gas systems.

A timeline for the project has been devised by the waste district, with the first deadline looming, the four finalists will have to submit completed proposals by November 20. If all goes well, the new plant will be up and running by January 2019.

Projects like this have a significant impact on many people, so officials might work with a newsletter printing company to create a letter that will keep them updated on developments.
