Both government officials and interested members of the public are invited to attend a leadership academy this month.
The course, formally titled the Medina County Government Leadership Academy, is 11 weeks long and is offered by the Ohio State University Extension of Medina County, Ohio. Participants will have a chance to learn about procedures, rules, process, pre-meeting activities, legal requirements, types of meetings, and the best practices to use in decision-making.
The series of classes is presented by the University in cooperation with Leadership Medina County, an organization that helps develop local leaders. The academy is suggested for anybody who's curious about the philosophies and mechanics that impact leadership in business or government. Classes will look at board and government structure, ethics, rules, social media, how to work in groups effectively, and building an atmosphere in which respect is offered, dialogue is civil and meaningful, and consensus can be reached.
Past attendees have included schoolboard members, business leaders, township trustees, mayors, and ordinary citizens who are interested in government.
The first class is on January 19, from 5:30 to 8:00 pm, at the A.I. Root Community Room on West Liberty Street in Medina. The classes meet weekly until the end of March. The classes are $40 each, the entire series is $275, and the price includes all materials and light meals.
Events like this can benefit if organizers work with a postcard printing company, which can create a card announcing the course for Mailing to locals.
