An Akron-based real estate developer has turned his other businesses over to his son to concentrate on renovating the Medina Farmers Exchange building, a decision he discussed recently.
Charles Marshall said he decided to take over the renovation because he has worked on renovations in the past, while others on the project are more experienced in building new structures from the ground up, which he said is entirely different.
The building, which spans 40,000 square feet, was built in 1904, but burned in 1905 and again in 1935. It was rebuilt out of concrete to make it fire resistant, making it the first Medina building to be constructed in this manner. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2018.
A number of merchants are already lining up to move in when the renovations are complete. These include a butcher shop and market to be located on the first floor. Kayleigh Keller, of Litchfield’s T.L. Keller Meats, will run the shop. Plans call for the Carnivore, a restaurant, to be located on this level. Patty and Jon Stahl, who own P.J. Marley’s Restaurant & Pub, will be in charge of the eatery
The Farmers Exchange will also offer 16 housing units, and people are already expressing interest, though there is no confirmed completion date for the project. Developers on such projects can use brochure printing to create informational Booklets for potential tenants.
