Residents of the 17 townships that comprise Medina County may now choose to have their recycling picked up at curbside rather than taking it to a drop-off bin.
Kimble Companies began the curbside program on March 14. Kimble also picks up recycling from bins located throughout the villages, cities, and townships in the county.
This effort will bring single-stream recycling to the unincorporated areas of Medina County, where Kimble is already collecting waste. Single-stream recycling is a system in which all recyclables are mixed together in the collection truck, rather than being sorted out by the residents into various commodities (glass, plastic, etc.), and handled separately.
Kimble's president, Keith Kimble, said he believed most people want to join in the effort to help the environment, but it has been difficult for them since Medina County historically has not been well served with regard to recycling. With the new program, all residents have to do is put their recycling curbside, in a single cart, and it will be picked up.
Although other companies are contracted to haul off waste, Kimble happened to be the first to offer curbside recycling to residents of the county. In addition, the company plans to expand its waste and recycling efforts to businesses located in the county, sometime this month.
