Outdoor walking tour shares Athens history

Athens residents, Ohio University students, and visitors will want to save the date for an upcoming dive into the town’s history through an outdoor walking tour at a famous building.

The Outdoor Historic Walking Tour of the Athens Asylum is right around the corner in town, with organizers aiming to host the experience this November. The experience will take guests on an outdoor walking tour of one of the few remaining Kirkbride Asylums in the nation. The tour will be led by George Eberts, who is a long-time Athens resident and a local historian with expertise on the asylum and its history.

The tour will take guests around the building’s grounds as Eberts provides his insights on patient treatment protocols over the asylum’s 150-year history. Brochure printing is an excellent way to provide attendees of such tours with more information for a more meaningful and memorable experience.

Guests will get to hear several stories and anecdotes, along with discovering hidden locations on the grounds that add to the asylum’s mystique. The tour is expected to last roughly two hours; attendees are asked to dress for the conditions.

The tour is set for Saturday, November 14th, starting at 2:00pm at the Athens Asylum. Tickets can be booked online, costing $10 for students, $15 for SE Ohio History Center Members, and $20 for general admission.
