The beginning of May was a good time to be a pet in need of a home near Williston Park.
Over the course of 36 hours, more than 500 pets were placed in homes throughout Long Island, as the North Shore Animal League America ran its annual Pet Adoptathon.
The event started at 8:30 am on Saturday, May 7 and continued through May 8. The 557 animals who ended up going home with a new family that weekend included dogs, bunnies, and cats. Animal shelters often use Banners to promote these special occasions and get the word out.
Edie Falco, an actor known for her work in ‘The Sopranos’ and ‘Nurse Jackie’, was on hand to participate in the Adoptathon's opening ceremonies. Falco is a longtime supporter of the Animal League America and adopted her dog, Niko, from the organization. She was there to cut the ribbon and kick the day off.
According to Matthew Carroll, the offsite manager for the organization, people came from all over the tristate area to adopt. Talking of the early time at which people began to arrive, he described the event as “phenomenal”.
Along with the appearance by Falco, a number of other celebrities made an appearance during Adoptathon. Mookie Wilson, a former Mets player, dropped by, and the Purina Incredible Dog Team kept the crowds entertained.Get a Free Quote for Banners
