What's Happening in Williston Park, NY…

Williston Park has a new water tower, and it is expected to in service by this time next week.

Landmark Structures was the contractor on the job, and built the new tower in April. The price tag for the tower, which replaces one 90 years old, was $7.34 million. The tower is 180 feet high, and can hold as many as 500,000 gallons of water – the same dimensions as the tower it is replacing.

Paul Ehrbar, the village’s mayor, said there are still some projects to be finished at the tower, including clean-up and welding, after which the tower will be painted. After that, tests will be conducted by the board of health, and if they go well, the tank will officially be put into service.

Ehrbar praised the contractor and subcontractors, along with the engineers, who brought the project in on schedule. Projects like this can use banner printing to celebrate completion.

In addition to the new water tower, the electrical system, and the water tank on Williams Street, which is at ground level, were also upgraded.

Increases in water rates for Williston Park and East Williston are helping fund the tower construction. The village engineer, Bill Merklin, says with proper maintenance, the new tower could last for another century. It is slated to start operations next Saturday, June 1.
