North Hampstead is looking into the possibility of extending its management contract with Harbor Links Golf Course a few miles north of Williston Park.
Harbor Links was built in 1998. It is operated by North Hempstead and owned by the Town of North Hempstead. The establishment features a championship course with 18 holes, a driving range, athletic fields, a pro shop, and a nine-hole course that the public can access when private events are being held. Banner printing can be used to promote brands at sporting events.
The course is looking to rebid the terms of the contract before the extension is approved. Supervisor Jennifer DeSena will put together a committee that she says will provide residents with an open and competitive process. The members of the committee have not been selected yet however DeSena says that the final list will be released soon.
A financial and operational review that was published in 2016 shows that the management and the golf course have had an agreement in place since 2013. Residents have been critical of how the course’s availability tends to be limited when private outings are held at the course. According to one resident, there has been no public access to parts of the course on 66 out of 109 weekdays from May to September. This means that the course was partially closed to the public for 61 percent of the weekdays during that period.
