Long Island will hold “The Watermelon 5K” race in mid-July. Runners can participate in-person or virtually, and Williston Park residents are welcome to participate.
Participants will run or walk a pre-planned route at Eisenhower Park or a route of one’s choosing if done virtually. Runners can join individually or as part of a team and can pick up a personalized bib an hour before the race. Organizers also recommend that each person brings their own water bottles. More race instructions will be given out on the evening before the event.
Following the run, participants will receive a T-shirt and medal that feature a unique watermelon-themed graphic design. Top male and female runners will be awarded watermelons in recognition of their accomplishments. Organizers also have a raffle planned to gift five cases of watermelon-flavored IPA made by the Great South Brewery.
The event will also fundraise for the Never Stop Running Foundation, a non-profit organization that aids charities and athletic events. It also supports athletes locally, nationally, and internationally.
The run will take place on July 17th at 8:30 AM, and virtual participants can complete the race anytime between the 17th and 25th. Runners can find Eisenhower Park at 1899 Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow. Registration for both options is $30 if done before the race day.
