Teens help seniors learn in Williston Park

People sometimes have difficulty understanding and using new technology, but now the Williston Park Library has a solution—teenagers.

Teenagers today have never known a world without technology, which makes them the perfect people to teach the subject to others. They are the instructors in the library's Teens Teach Technology program, which consists of three lessons.

The aim of Teens Teach Technology is to instruct senior citizens and adults about today's technology, including social media, applications, and entertainment they will find useful every day. All the lessons will be held via Zoom, which may be some of the students' first experience with this platform. The library has a link to a video on Zoom, and how to download it, that people will want to watch in advance of the lessons.

- Lesson 1 is on social media and how to use it. This includes platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

- Lesson 2 will discuss how to use some of the applications (apps) many people use daily, such as ordering food via apps like GrubHub and DoorDash.

- Lesson 3 is about accessing entertainment, such as streaming services like hulu and Netflix.

Lesson 1, Social Media, is set for August 10 from 10:30 am until 11:00 am. Lesson 2, Daily Apps, will be held August 17, from 10:30 am until 11:00 am, and Lesson 3, Entertainment, will be held August 24, from 10:30 am until 11:00 am. Flyer printing can be used to devise an outline for lessons such as this, and mailed to participants in advance of the classes.
