Sustainability workshops scheduled for March

North Hempstead town plans to host a series of online workshops on sustainability.

North Hempstead is just a few miles north of Williston Park. The goal of these workshops is to gain community support and involvement when it comes to dealing with climate change. The workshops will be set up as a series with three parts, and each part will concentrate on one topic related to home sustainability. The first workshop will show people how to care for their yards in a sustainable manner, the second one will be about growing native plants, and the third will cover rain gardens.

The workshops are being organized by Meagan Fastuca, the town’s Climate Smart Community Task Force Coordinator. They will include presentations, as well as chances for attendees to discuss the topics and ask questions. Rusty Schmidt, the Long Island Native Plant Initiative’s President, will make a presentation at the second presentation. Printing services can be used to get ready for presentations, even if they are taking place online.

The first workshop will be on Wednesday, March 1. The second will be two weeks later on March 15, and the final one will be another two weeks later on March 29. All three workshops will be online via Zoom and will start at 6:30 pm. Those who wish to attend will need to sign up online through North Hempstead’s website. No further workshops have been scheduled as yet, but town officials say that more are likely.
