New Indian restaurant gets set to open near Williston Park

The village of Mineola, which neighbors Williston Park, is getting ready to welcome a new eatery.

Last month, the village board approved the plans of restaurateur Arvind Gupta to transform a bar once known as Shakers into Jassi's, a family-focused Indian restaurant. Gupta also manages a branch of Jassi’s in New Hyde Park, Queens.

Gupta was drawn to Mineola back in 2014, when his wife gave birth to their son at the Winthrop-University Hospital. Although the village's downtown was expanding, Gupta noted that there was a dearth of Indian restaurants in the area. He also noted that some people were willing to travel from the area to Queens to dine at Jassi's there.

Gupta will own the new restaurant with Valvinderjit Bains and Jasbir Singh, who also own the original Jassi's in Queens. Anshu Gupta, his wife, will take on a role as a planner for the restaurant. The group may want to use marketing services to get the word out about the restaurant before its grand opening.

Before the new eatery opens, Gupta plans on updating the building's exterior and to make the interior more spacious, and offering a full bar.

Now that the restaurant has the approval of the board, plans are underway to get it ready for an April opening. The goal is to have the restaurant open seven days a week for lunch and dinner.
