The opening event was open to the public and was held at the Village Hall in the William Gill Theatre, on the second floor. Local officials, including Mayor Robert Lofaro and Nassau County Legislator Rich Nicolello were on hand to welcome the museum into the world. Team behind major openings like this often use poster and banner printing services to advertise the goings on.
According to Greg Spano, a member of the museum's board, the mission of the museum is to:
"…give present and future generations a sense and knowledge of the history of this great village."
The area came into being in 1927, holding its first mayoral election in September of that year.
On view at the museum's opening were photographs and memorabilia, some of which date back to the late 19th Century. Carol Nowakowski, the president of the museum, said:
"A lot of people worked very hard to get this going and I am very proud of this museum."
The museum is currently open from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm on Tuesdays in March. It accepts donations as admission.
