Over the course of less than a year, Chaminade High School in Mineola, by Williston Park, has completed construction on two buildings. It is now preparing to break ground on the third building.
At the end of last month, the high school was given final approval from the village to construct a 36,000-square-foot building. The high school's science programs, including biology, chemistry, earth science, and physics, will be housed in the building once it is finished.
The school can use poster printing to let students and parents know about the plan for the newest building, which will be called the Science, Technology, and Research Center. The goal of the building is to better prepare the school's student for careers in science and technology. Currently, the school's science classrooms have not been updated in more than 20 years.
Along with featuring modern and up-to-date classrooms, the building will have a number of research labs for more advanced student projects, and a special home for the Science Olympiad. In total, the building is expected to cost $13m. It will be located at the northwest corner of the school's campus, near the Gold Star Stadium.
According to Thomas Cleary, the president of Chaminade High, the goal is to begin to prepare the site for construction during December. It's hoped that the building will be finished by the summer of 2017.
