High School near Williston Park announces top students

New Hyde Park Memorial High School, near Williston Park, recently announced its Class of 2016 valedictorian and salutatorian.

The school named Roby Daniel as the valedictorian, or student with the highest grade point average. Daniel has a GPA of 103.1963. Carolyn Wilson is the class' salutatorian, with a GPA of 102.1374. The school could use Stationery printers to produce certificates of recognition for both of the students.

Along with having the highest GPAs in their class, Daniel and Wilson have shown a commitment to excellence outside of the classroom. Daniel earned a 2,300 on his SATs and a 35 on the ACT, as well as perfect scores on the chemistry and US History SAT IIs. He has passed six NY Regents' exams with perfect scores and was a National Merit Commended Scholar.

The whiz-kid also volunteers at a number of area hospitals, working with patients and delivering medical goods. He has clocked more than 350 hours as a volunteer with the CSI Malayalam Congregation of Greater New York, working on youth events and fundraisers.

Wilson is an active scientist and researcher, and was accepted to the Columbia Science Honors program in the fall. Over the summer, she worked under Dr. Lionel Blanc at the Oncology and Cell Biology Center at the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research. She is the editor in chief of the school yearbook and a member of the Mathletes and the Science Olympiad.
