For residents of Williston Park, a new coat of paint on the walls, plus some new carpeting and improved software, is set to make the library a more welcoming and user friendly place.
Donna McKenna, the library director, told The Island Now that the improvements would "definitely be beneficial on the patron experience end".
The library received a grant of $25,000 from the state at the end of November. First on the list of things to do is to repaint the walls. The last time the walls got a fresh coat of paint was almost 20 years ago, in 1996. At that point, an extension was built on the library, which spurred the paint job.
Although the library has the money in hand now, a definite start date for the paint job has yet to be set. Once the library chooses a date, it could use local printing services to let patrons know about areas with wet paint.
Along with improving the appearance of the library, the grant money will go a long towards making it more user friendly. The new software programs will help people find the Books and other materials they are looking for more quickly. They will also be able to check books in and out with ease.
