Colorful event near Williston Park

A traditional dance event is scheduled for the Williston Park area.

For three days, people will be able to enjoy the 42nd Annual Thunderbird American Indian Powwow. This brings together more than 40 Indian Nations to take part in Native American dance contests. Visitors will be able to enjoy traditional dances such as Sunset Lighting of the Bonfire, and the Gourd Dance. In addition, there will be an extensive market offering jewelry, crafts, and other authentic Native American goods and food, including the popular fry bread.

Tickets are available for one day, or the entire weekend. Extra fees will be charged for hayrides, pony rides, and the petting zoo. Food vendors will set their own prices, and cash payment is requested for any extra events, as there will not be an ATM available.

The Powwow is scheduled for July 24, 25, and 26. On the first day, the gates will open at 6:00 pm, with performances from 7:00 pm until 10:00 pm. Gates on day two will open at 10:00 am, with two performance sessions; the first from 12:00 pm until 5:00 pm, and the second from 7:00 pm until 10:00 pm. On the final day, the gates will open at 10:00 am, with the dances taking place from 12:00 pm until 5:00 pm.

The venue is the Queens County Farm Museum in Floral Park, a short distance from Williston Park. Flyer printing can provide handouts identifying participants in events like this.
