What's Happening in Syosset, NY…

Syosset virtual workshop to visit 1921 world

A century ago, the Syosset area was in recovery mode much like it is today, and a virtual tour will offer insight into what it was like to be alive at that time.

Historian Brad Bradford is scheduled to present a multimedia time capsule that will take a step back to 1921, centered on the local area. Due to safety concerns related to Covid-19, the public will be able to attend the function online only, and a meeting URL and log in ID have been provided.

The discussion will explore the similarities between the post-World War and post-influenza pandemic world of the 1920s, and the way people are recovering from Covid today, and also how there was a high level of optimism for the future. Bradford is a lecturer with The Organization of American Historians, and there is no advance registration needed to be in the audience for the presentation.

Offering the public an opportunity to learn about the history of their hometown is just one of the roles a library can serve in a community. Including these sorts of workshops in publications such as community guides, leaflets, and other marketing materials prepared by a flyer printing shop is a simple way to inform the public that they are on the agenda.

The Syosset Public Library on Oyster Bay Road has invited area history buffs to learn more about their backstory of their town on August 16. It will be hosted using the Zoom platform.
