Syosset school plays its part in promoting health
As part of a growing trend of schools across the country doing what they can to encourage students to live healthier lives, Syosset High School recently held its ninth annual Health Awareness Day.
Put together by Shai Fisher, the school's health teacher, the event featured the participation of a number of area businesses, as well as the Syosset PTSA. Wellness Day took place in the high school gym, with each participating group or organization setting up booths and tables full of information for students, parents, and teachers. Those who participated may have benefited from using printing services to put together their materials and to provide handouts to anyone who dropped by.
A number of booths were setup to perform health screenings and tests. For example, the School of Nursing from Farmingdale State College had a station at which it performed health screenings. Trazer, an organization that conducts concussion testing and fitness drills using advanced technology, was also there and offered a variety of health screenings.
Several food vendors also set up in the gym, offering people free samples of vegetables, fruits and healthy sweets. A few other organizations were on hand with fun activities to keep people engaged throughout the day. One of the groups there was the Syosset PTSA Wellness Committee, which gave out prizes to those who were willing to participate in health-related challenges.
