What's Happening in Syosset, NY…

Syosset restaurant reopens after temporary closure

A restaurant in Syosset has reopened after undergoing a facelift and a name change.

The restaurant, formerly known as George Martin's Grillfire, shut down at the end of February. The closure was part of a planned renovation.

At the end of March, the revamped restaurant opened again, under the name George Martin 1989, with the 1989 in the name referring to the year that owner George Korten started his first diner.

George Martin 1989's cuisine and style is inspired by American steakhouses, but offers a range of dishes. A sample of the menu includes Cauliflower Ravioli, Korean BBQ Duck Tacos, and Espresso Rubbed Flat Iron Steak. The kitchen is overseen by Chef Christopher Holt.

George Martin is a small chain of restaurants, with six other locations on Long Island. The Syosset location of George Martin Grillfire first opened in 2014. There are two other Grillfire restaurants: one in Merrick and one in Rockville Center.

In addition, there are two George Martin Burger Bars (one in Massapequa Park and one in Rockville Center), a Strip Steak in Great River, and a George Martin Club Steak in Rockville Center.

Restaurants risk losing customers when they have to shut down, even if just for a few weeks. To make sure existing customers know about the reopening, eateries can use marketing services to spread the word.
