What's Happening in Syosset, NY…

Syosset residents invited to sign up special 5K

The Sands Point Spring, sponsored by the law firm of Lynn, Gartner, Dunne & Covello, has been called one of Long Island's most unusual 5K races, and returns next month.

Residents of Syosset and other villages on Long Island are invited to sign up. This year's 5k will raise funds for the Sunrise Association, an organization that helps children with cancer and their siblings, experience the fun of childhood. The Sunrise Association sponsors day camps as well as programs throughout the year, some of which are held in hospitals. Its programs are free of charge.

Organizers of 5K races can use banners to mark the beginning and the ends of the race course. The course through the Sands Point Preserve is unique, as it combines paved pathways with woodland trails. It weaves through meadows, forests, and beaches, giving runners and walkers a chance to see gardens, cliffs, and a pond as they move along.

Each person who signs up for the 5K will get a T-shirt, and prices will be award to the top finishers in each age groups. The age groups start at under 10 and move up in five-year increments, up to a group for participants ages 85 and older.

People can sign up for the August 7 race at the sponsoring law firm's website, or by contacting the firm for a physical copy of the registration form.
