Syosset residents encouraged to register to Walk for Victory

The Marfan Foundation, a nonprofit organization based in Port Washington near Syosset, will be holding a Walk for Victory at the beginning of May.

Standard registration is now open for people who want to sign up for the one-mile walk and help raise money for the Foundation.

A genetic disorder that affects the connective tissue, eyes, and heart, Marfan syndrome is relatively rare. About 1 out of every 5,000 people have it. It can be treated, which is why raising awareness of the condition and helping people understand the common signs of it is of such importance, and why many organizations use brochure printers to help educate people about disorder and encourage people to sign up for walks and other events to address the cause.

People can register on their own, join an already existing team, or create their own team. Standard registration, available throughout the month of April, is $10. On the day of the walk itself, the cost to register is $20. The cost includes snacks and games, as well as the entry fee.

Those who raise $100 or more will be given a Walk for Victory T-shirt. For those interested in participating, check-in is at noon on May 2 and the walk is scheduled to begin at 12:30 pm at the Syosset-Woodbury Community Park.
