Syosset native lands TV gig in Florida

For Michelle Mackonochie, a native of Syosset and alumnus of Syosset High School, the dream of working in TV has become reality.

Mackonochie recently started as a news anchor for WINK News, a morning news show that airs in the Fort Myers, Florida area. She sits at the desk during the 8:00 am and 9:00 am airtime shifts.

The move to Fort Myers is a step up the career ladder for the Syosset native. She started out at WBKB in Alpena, Michigan, the 208th largest station in the country. Mackonochie then made the jump to WMDT/47ABC in Salisbury, Maryland, which is the 143rd largest market in the country.

Speaking to the Syosset-Jericho Tribune about her new gig, Mackonochie described it as:

"…awesome and really eye-opening because it is a lot bigger than where I came from. It’s much different than 47ABC. It’s a much bigger challenge and exactly what I was looking for. I was ready for that next step.”

Schools that have students go on to achieve career success can use banner and brochure printing to highlight the accomplishments of their alumni.

Mackonochie pointed out that several famous people call Syosset High their alma mater. She also said that she hopes she can be an inspiration and encouragement to any students at the school who are interested in pursuing careers in broadcasting or as news anchors.
