Syosset locals honored at annual Teddy Roosevelt dinner
For the past 22 years, the South Syosset-Woodbury Republican Club has been presenting the Teddy Roosevelt Achievement Award to people who have shown a commitment to public service. The award recipients for 2018 are Joe Iavarone and Jack Biondo.
The club presented the two with their awards during its recent awards dinner that took place at the Woodbury Country Club. Organizations that give out awards can use stationery printers to produce certificates and other details of an awards ceremony, such as menus and place settings.
The club's president, Christopher A. Renke, Esq., stated that both men were particularly deserving of the award this year. Both are involved with a number of charitable organizations and chambers of commerce.
Biondo is the owner of Plaza Realty Properties, LLC, which manages commercial properties in Florida and New York, including several in the Syosset area. He oversees the annual Holiday Tree Lighting Spectacular in Syosset, which takes place at a property he owns. Biondo also donates food, purchases the tree, and arranges the entertainment for the annual event.
Iavarone grew up in Queens but has been living in Syosset with his family for the past 25 years. He is the co-founder of the Syosset High School Booster Club and won the Chamber of Commerce's Civic Award. When accepting his award at the Teddy Roosevelt Dinner, Iavarone had some news of his own. His family will be creating an annual scholarship at Syosset High School, in memory of his father, John. The scholarship will be for graduating seniors going into the hospitality or culinary fields.
