Syosset library seeking support from needlecrafters
Libraries across New York State have joined forces to support an initiative that offers a touch of warmth to kids facing a tough battle ahead.
Kids in the state who are undergoing chemotherapy will soon be receiving cozy blankets to both keep them warm and show them their community cares. The Syosset Public Library is one of the participating branches, and the public is invited to take part.
The Squares That Care initiative organizers have put out a call for nine-inch crocheted knitted squares or 36-by-36-inch blankets. The squares will be sewn into blankets, and the completed pieces will be passed along to hospitals in the state. All materials used must be acrylic so as not to trigger allergies.
Donations of blankets, squares and extra yarn can be dropped off in the Library's Reader’s Service Desk on its second floor.
A hands-on community service project can be satisfying for those who take part. A poster printing company will be happy to prepare marketing materials that may be helpful in ensuring a campaign or other activity is successful.
This chance for Syosset crafters to bring a touch of comfort to kids going through chemo is scheduled to run from runs until October 21. More details about the program can be found on the We Care Blankets website.
