SUNY outlook for local school
Thanks to a new state sponsored program, Farmingdale State College, located near Syosset, will be able to employ as many as 20 new people.
Mitogenetics and Codagenix, both development and research firms, will be moving to the campus of the State University of New York (SUNY) school as part of the START-UP NY initiative, organized by Governor Andrew Cuomo. The goal of the program is to have firms in high-growth industries team up with college campuses across the state, thus creating more jobs and opportunity for economic growth.
The companies already have some ties to Long Island and New York State. Although Mitogenetics is headquartered in Iowa, it has worked with SUNY at the Old Westbury campus. Codagenix is base in Stony Brook. Both will soon set up shop at Farmingdale's Broad Hollow Science Park and can use brochure printers to advertise themselves and describe the newly created positions.
The focus of Codagenix is on the more effective development of vaccines using software. It will invest $135,000 in the new location and add five jobs. Mitogenetics is expected to add 15 jobs to the area and invest $2.65million, with tis focus on treating mitochondrial dysfunction.
In all, 11 businesses are expected to partner with schools in the area, investing almost $30 million. Over the next five years, the companies are set to add more than 150 jobs at various SUNY schools across the state.
