What's Happening in Syosset, NY…

Registration opens for Oyster Bay Triathlon

The 26th annual triathlon comes to the Town of Oyster Bay, on Long Island, near Syosset, this August. Registration rates are lowest in the month of April and increase as the date approaches.

Only a limited number of people - 1,500 - can participate in this year's triathlon. Registrations are accepted on a first come, first served basis, so not only will registering early save people money - it will also guarantee them at a spot at the starting line.

One difference this year is that the race will take place on Saturday instead of a Sunday. The organizers are hoping that the new day will allow more people to participate in the race and come to cheer the athletes on.

Race organizers can make use of banner printing to mark the starting line, each checkpoint, and the finish line. The triathlon begins with a half mile swim across the Oyster Bay Harbor. Athletes are then expected to bike 15 km across Oyster Bay, to Oyster Bay Cover and finally through Laurel Hollow. The event wraps up with a 5km run to the Planting Fields and through Theodore Roosevelt Park.

Along with the adult triathlon, there will be a junior triathlon for those between the ages of 8 and 13, which will include a 200-yard swim, a 2.5-mile bike ride and a 1-mile run. The races kick off at 7:30 am on August 24. Afterwards, there will be a beef barbecue, with all athletes getting fed free of charge.
