NY state rewards Syosset High School
The State Education Department recently named Syosset High School as a ‘Reward School’.
It joins 15 other schools in Nassau County in receiving the recognition. Among the other honorees is neighboring Jericho Senior High School. The reward is given to schools that are high performing, or those that have made considerable progress. Syosset High is in the former of these categories.
In recent years, Syosset High students have participated in the Siemens Competition in Math, Science and Technology and the school has received numerous awards and recognitions.
In 2017, Newsweek ranked it as the 24th top school in New York and in 173rd place nationwide. Two students from the school were scholars in the Regeneron Science Talent Search this past year. It has also been named a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence in the past.
Schools that receive numerous awards and accolades often use banner printing to highlight each award and to instill a sense of pride in the student body.
To receive recognition as a Reward School in New York, a school needs to have been among the top 20% in the state in math and English language arts for the past two years. Schools also need to have made "Adequate Yearly Progress" during the past two years for all students. In New York, 155 schools earned Reward School status.
