New Target opens near Syosset
In recent years, Target, a big-box retailer, has been experimenting with smaller stores in more densely populated urban areas. On a recent Sunday in November, the ‘bull's eye’ retailer opened one more small-format store on Long Island, this one relatively close to Syosset in Selden.
In advance of the official grand opening, the store held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on November 7.
The new Target is the fourth small-format location on Long Island. Making up just over 54,000-square-feet, the new store primarily stocks a selection of groceries, including fresh vegetables and fruits, snacks, and meal options. There is also a family-focused personal care and beauty section, some home decor, clothing, and a technology and electronics section.
Stores that are planning grand opening celebrations can use local print shops to spread the word.
Aside from their more compact size, one thing that makes Target's small-format stores unique is that they are designed to meet the needs of a particular community and are customized based on the neighborhood. Target saw a need for more grocery, home decor and apparel in its new store.
As the Mark Schindele, the senior VP of Properties for Target, told Patch,
