What's Happening in Syosset, NY…

Coding school opens in Syosset

Syosset will be the first Long Island location of a Silicon Valley-based coding academy.

The Coder School teaches children from the ages of 6 to 18 various computer languages, including Python and Scratch. Its programs range from coaching, classes, and camps during school breaks and summer vacation.

The owners of the coding school franchise decided on Syosset as its first New York location because of the commitment and dedication they observed at the Syosset School District. Noreen Kazi, the general manager and owner, told the Syosset Patch:

"We decided to place our first site in Syosset because of the incredible energy and focus that the district has on educating their students.

“Additionally, we wanted to be in a location that is . . . easily accessible by various towns."

New private academies and schools can use marketing services to connect with families in the area and with the local schools. The Coder School will not only teach children the skills they need for the jobs of the future; it will also invite professionals and executives from tech companies to speak about their industries and careers.

Kazi stressed the importance of preparing today's students for tomorrow's jobs, noting that many of the jobs that will be available when children are grown up do not exist yet.

The school will host a grand opening celebration this Saturday, October 14, starting at 1:00 pm. Prizes will be given out, such as an iPad.
