Red Hook area invited to give gilding a try

Gilding is an artform that has long been used to create a variety of decorative items, and a Red Hook area activity will introduce the practice to the public.

A Staatsburg venue will be offering the opportunity for registrants to try their hand at crafting a gilded ornament they can keep to display in their own home or give as holiday gift. Tickets for the session are $14.64 per person. Registrants are reminded that as real nuts will be used, it may not be suitable for those with an allergy.

The workshop will introduce the basics of the craft using the materials provided. The organizers note that the completed projects may be well suited to Victorian-style decor, and while they work, the crafters will be treated to some light refreshments.

Along with the hands-on crafting, the venue’s gift shop will be open so everyone can get a head start on their holiday shopping. A flyer printing company will be pleased to help spread the word to the public about a special upcoming event.

Staatsburgh State Historic Site, which is located at 75 Mills Mansion Road, has set Friday, November 15 as the date for this introduction to the art of gilding. It will be for those age 15 and up, and it will begin at 6:00 pm.
