Young music masters to perform at select ensemble

The upcoming Eastern Division Honor Ensembles of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) will include four student musicians playing from Massapequa High School, it has recently been confirmed.

Music-loving Massapequa Park locals will no doubt be interested to hear that two juniors who be part of the Treble Chorus, a senior will play the clarinet with the All-Eastern Band, and another senior will play the English horn in the All-Eastern Orchestra. Students that perform in these ensembles are the pick of 13 northeastern states, the District of Columbia, and American Military Schools in Europe.

With more than 800 applicants just from New York State, 650 students were selected from across the northeast to perform in the ensembles, which include jazz, band, symphony orchestra, and mixed and treble chorus.

According to the curriculum associate for music for the district, Dr. David Gaines, these students are also members of the National Ensembles of NAfME held in October in Nashville, Tennessee, as well as the All-State Honors Ensembles held in December in Rochester, New York.

The Eastern Division Conference is held every two years and is hosted by a local state Music Education Association. This year’s conference is in Providence, Rhode Island and will be held from April 9 through April 12. Most likely a flyer printing service is being used by the school to create handouts that inform the community of this honor and of the upcoming event.
