Students show support of troops in the Middle East

Adopt-a-Battalion was recently supported by donation drives from the Patriot Club of Deer Park High School.

The students were able to help the organization and members serving in the United States armed forces in Kuwait, Afghanistan, and Iraq by creating and sending care packages.

The students spent a month collecting items for the care packages and also recently held a one-day drive at the new ShopRite supermarket in Deer Park. Created flyers could be one way to specify the needed items for the care packages.

At the one-day drive, the students were able to collect many items to which the troops serving in the Middle East do not have access, such as snacks and toiletries.

Once the members of the Patriot Club had all the items they needed, they brought them to the offices of Adopt-a-Battalion in Massapequa Park, where they were packed up for mailing. They also had held a ‘Hearts for Heroes’ fundraiser during which they earned $120, and a staff baby picture contest at their high school by means of which they raised an additional $100. These funds were also donated to Adopt-a-Battalion.

According to the advisor of the club, Laurie Osbern, the students and the community of Deer Park were able to support this cause and show their tremendous patriotism and generosity. A great deal of appreciation was shown by the administrators of Adopt-a-Battalion, Osbern added.
