More than $25m will be distributed in the following fashion, with Massapequa taking over half of it ($14.3m), East Massapequa claiming $8.7m, and Massapequa Park to benefit from $3m. The money allotted to the Massapequas is part of a $750m program distributed to 102 communities for recovery from Sandy and Irene.
Governor Cuomo, in conjunction with Shaun Donovan, the U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, announced the distribution of the money for the New York Rising Community Construction program. This program uses a two-pronged approach; the state takes the lead in rebuilding key infrastructure and investing strategies to minimize future storm damage while allowing local municipalities to make their own improvements and investments in the future.
Donovan said:
“[The program] will empower communities to develop bold plans that will help make New York stronger, more economically competitive and better able to withstand future storms."
Local contractors will surely want to keep their ears to the ground and keep a supply of digital businesses cards and a newly printed Brochures on hand to enhance their chances of landing a contract.
Governor Cuomo announced that James Rubin was to be the program director. A past partner of One Equity Partners, Rubin works as an adviser for Donovan at HUD.
