What's Happening in Massapequa Park, NY…

Snownations requested for snowman reprisal

Last year, Mike Fregoe and his family from Massapequa Park created a snowman that lasted through April 20, and now they are looking for “snownations” from people in the area to keep their recreated snowman of 15 feet for this year.

They are keen to beat their own record in terms of height and longevity from last year. However, the snowman was recently found to have shrunk to 13 feet.

This year’s snowman was started with a snowball preserved in the freezer from last year's version. He was able to survive a rainstorm with his rain gear that included a great deal of plastic in which to wrap his body, and a beach umbrella for a hat.

Even so, he lost a few pounds. The Save the Snowman Team found a sled filled with snow in a neighbor's yard and was able to clean up and fill out the Snowman quite a lot. The Team is looking for as many donations of snow as possible so that he can wear his St. Patrick’s Day attire.

The Team may have hired a local print company to print flyers that could be posted around the area, asking people for donations of snow to keep Snowman “alive” through the spring months.

The snowman has achieved the status of a local celebrity, having recently been visited by Miss Big Apple, Jr. Teen.
