Those who like performing physical activities can attend an athletic event held in Massapequa Park at John J Burns Park shortly.
The Massapequa Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot is an elitefeats Grand Prix Race that encourages locals to compete in a 5K run/walk. The race will be held on a course that is USATF certified, following the interior loop at the park. There will be bagels and bananas provided to racers who complete the 5K run/walk. Attendees can also bring strollers with them to the event too.
The race will benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Since being created in 2010, it has contributed huge sums towards fighting blood cancer. The race was formed by James P. Joseph, Brian Griffin, Tom Foley as a way of recognizing Joseph’s battle against the disease. Organizations that hold fundraisers like this can use graphic design to create Apparel to distribute or sell during the event.
The Trot will begin at 9:15 am, though guests can arrive at 7:30 am to pick up their racing packets on the day of the event. There will also be a fun run held at 8:30 am. Runners can register in advance for $28 per person, or enter the race on Thanksgiving Day for $35 instead. Commemorative shirts are guaranteed to those who register by November 12.
