The Town of Oyster Bay, in which Massapequa Park is located, is holding its annual Oyster Festival for the 32nd year, hosted by the Oyster Bay Rotary.
The Oyster Bay Charitable Fund provides the monies for the festival and the two organizations may have worked together on newsletter printing to create a special 12-page advertising section for the local newspaper.
The Festival offers a combination of favorite activities as well as new ones that are designed to appeal to the entire family. Live entertainment will include opening day ceremonies and several other individual singers and groups.
Other activities planned will include artisans and crafts, pirate treasure hunts, Tall Ships, carnival rides and games, and the oyster shucking and eating contest, sponsored by Newton Shows. A featured attraction will be the largest rubber duck in the world sponsored by Stew Leonard II Children’s Charities.
Another feature of the festival is the Food Court, where professional and volunteer chefs will be cooking and serving dozens of unique clam, oyster, lobster, and other seafood creations, along with traditional fare such as hamburgers, French fries, and steak sandwiches.
Profits from all sales in the food court will go towards many charities in the local area, while proceeds from merchandise sales and carnival rides will be donated to additional charities the Rotary supports throughout the year.
The Festival will be held this weekend, October 17 and 18, at the Theodore Roosevelt Park in Oyster Bay.
