Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York recently unveiled the new Jones Beach State Park, just a short distance from Massapequa Park, after a $36 million restoration and improvement project.
Some of the renovations included upgrades to the West Bathhouse and East and Central malls at the park. There is a new Taste-NY Bar with food originating from New York State, new concession stands, and craft beverages inside the Nikon at Jones Beach Theater.
Future renovations include repairs to the boardwalk and a prototype parking lot, which will open this summer. It is part of the new mobile app that will motorists find parking in the lots which become extremely crowded during the peak season.
Cuomo said the app will show which lots are filled, which are empty and the occupancy percentages of each lots so drivers will know in advance which lots they should choose, thereby addressing the problem people face spending at least a half-hour looking for a parking lot with available spaces.
The original Revitalization Plan of $65 million was announced by the Governor in March 2014. It is now part of Parks 2020, in which $1 billion will be spent to restore the entire parks system in the state.
Various printing services can be used with projects like these to let residents who frequent the beach and others in the community about the new offerings and app.
