Inaugural kayaking event raises funds for veterans group

The Town of Babylon will be the host for the first ‘Kayaking for a Cause’ event.

A veterans’ group in the local area will be chosen by the Veterans Advisory Council, and the funds collected by the event will be donated to the selected group. The Amityville Hunter Squires Jackson American Legion Post 1218 will be the recipient of this year’s proceeds.

Everybody from novice to advanced kayakers from the surrounding communities, including Massapequa Park, is welcome to participate. The event is will be limited to 100 kayakers on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. The beginner trail will be 2.5 miles long, the intermediate trail will be 3.5 miles long, and the advanced trail will be a full 5.5 miles.

The Cedar Beach Marina will be the starting point of the tour and lunch will be served afterwards at the Beach Hut. The tour will start promptly at 9:00 am and all kayakers are expected to return by 11:00 am. The registration fee, which is $35 for adults and $15 for children under 12, includes the tour, a T-shirt, and lunch.

Kayaking for a Cause will take place on Saturday, September 19 and is hosted by the Town of Babylon Department of Parks and Environmental Control, which appears to have used a poster printing company to Print a colorful and attractive poster with more details about registration and where to go for answers to questions.
