The Kelly Cares Foundation recently recognized the KeiraSTRONG Foundation, based in Massapequa, just a short distance from Massapequa Park, at its Annual Irish Eyes Gala in New York City.
The KeiraSTRONG Foundation supports families going through pediatric cancer treatment and other life threatening diseases. It was created by the family of Keira Enright and their friends after she was diagnosed at the age of seven with leukemia. It holds annual lacrosse tournaments and golf outings to raise funds.
The family received the ‘Spirit of Giving Award’ at the gala. Heather Enright, Keira’s mother, commented that being recognized by the Kelly Cares Foundation is a great honor. When faced with the challenges of childhood cancer, they received a great deal of support from friends, colleagues and family, and she said that they are now glad to be able to give back to organizations that provide support to families facing childhood cancer.
These organizations are carefully selected based on where their funds will make the biggest impact. They have donated to the Make-a-Wish foundation and to Sunrise Day Camp, a day camp on Long island just for children with cancer.
Keira is now 11 years old and will celebrate her second anniversary of being free of treatment this May.
