A man from Massapequa Park has succeeded in keeping a snowman “alive” for the past three months.
Mike Fregoe builds a snowman every winter to greet his neighbors on Smith Street and to make them laugh as they walk by. With this being such a long and snowy winter, however, as the warmer weather approached and falling snow turned to rain, he decided to keep the snowman going.
With the help of a page on Facebook and news stories printed by local Print companies in particular, the Fregoe family has taken on the task of surviving the warmer temperatures and the snowman has been able to stay alive for three months so far. He is protected under tarp when it rains and has been rebuilt, as fans from Sayville, Farmingdale and Patchogue bring buckets of snow whenever they can.
The Facebook page now has about 1,900 fans and the tale of the survival of the Massapequa Park snowman has circumnavigated the globe.
Fregoe’s goal is to find out how long he can make last so he is caring for the snowman with his children by making him shorter and bulkier. They recently went to Bethpage State Park because they heard there was still some snow there.
